I'm not saying it's fox news style fearmongering. This isn't them saying vaccines cause communism and death and gayness!

But why did they report on this one death with one possible association as opposed to many many many MANY other deaths. Every day in rich countries with good healthcare systems poor moms still die needlessly. Where is the article whenever this happens?

The answer is that no one cares about the increased rate of maternal mortality among poor women in rich countries, but some people (idiotically) do care about vaccines being potentially dangerous. And so YES, I still emphatically believe that the telegraph fed into this paranoia by reporting on this story as opposed to all the other tragic deaths out there, ones where the problems are clearly identified as opposed to weak associations.

Sometimes fox news doesn't say "obama hates white people." sometime they instead say "we're not saying obama hates white people, but we really don't know for sure." and let's be honest, from a journalistic and marketing of ideas point of view, these are not that far apart, even if the latter is factual.

Im in the exact same boat except im not married, I live in UT and more importantly UT valley. I go to church every once in a while and i couldnt agree more with you almost every one sounds like they have been programed from birth to say what they say and they all always say the exact same thing!

Almost all of my friends are lds but luckly they all are some of the most understanding and non judgmental people ive met which is lucky for me. Honest I abosluty have no issues with the lds church i thing they do extremely good for the state of utah. They keep it very clean, great economy because of the church and there business practices, almost no crime you dont need to worry for the most part about locking your car or house at night (even though you should regardless of where you live.) dont have to worry about walking around down town salt lake late at night. I quite enjoy it here it is a very beautiful state with lots of out door activities. As you said though i just have an issue with religion in general.

What I have found to help though is i just keep to my self more i know ever one in my ward area but i dont get involved like every one else and when they ask i just politely turn them down and say maybe next time. My family and I are on an understanding that I respect them and there beliefs and dont criticize them about it and they do the same to me. It really comes down to a simple and mutual respect, I noticed thats where alot of people here have issues if there not lds they keep trying to force there views on the members of the church and tell them they are wrong, and so it happens back to them. If you keep to your self about it and let them be they are alot happier to let you be too!

I have no plans of ever moving from here and i want to raise a family here because of the positive family influence the church promotes. I really do agree with it. Again though i just let them be and they let me be i dont try and force my ideologies on them so they dont to me. Of coarse your going to have the ones that are ass holes and wont leave you be but thats just how it goes and you just have to ignore them.

I hope this helps I have lived a very enjoyable life in Utah and have gotten along great with all my neighbors and even better with my good lds friends. Please if you have any questions ask away i would be more than willing to answer any questions about living comfortable in utah being raised lds but falling away later and yet having a great and enjoyable time with out conflict!

rape is a crime against society, so it really doesn't matter what the victim says. But keep in mind that 25 years ago, there was a prosecution taking place. You don't get to flee from punishment and then just say Ok, it's all good now, let's forget about the past. She brought charges when it happened and the system began chugging along. Just because he fled doesn't mean that there's a resolution.

l This individual fucked up a long time ago and he has been paying for it since

you don't get to pick your punishment, and really, what punishment? the guy's living it up all around the world.

My wife and I (and our 3 un-baptised kids, thank FSM that they aren't old enough to really have been indoctrinated) left the church a few months ago. We decided that it was also important to us that we have our membership records removed so we did that last month.

Literally every member of mine and my wife's immediate family are steadfast in their belief in the church. It has been very hard to tell them all because it is a crap shoot whether they take it well or not. I would say that about 50% of them have been totally okay with it, and the other 50% are acting like I just told them that I started raping babies in my spare time.

It is a very hard road to walk and it is different for everyone. That being said, I also think it is important to be true to yourself. I pretended to believe for a long time and it really made me unhappy as well.

Even in Utah there are a lot of people like you. They start to come out of the woodwork when the news gets out. So in some ways Utah really sucks (and I want to move away) but in others it is one of the few places where there are a lot of people that have had the same struggle as you are currently having.

I recommend the website postmormon.org if you are looking for some sense of community, support, or advice. They have a very good discussion board as well as a cool section about peoples stories of how they left the Mormon church. Feel free to look me up on there, my name is Anointed Quorum, not that I post there very often. Also feel free to private message me. I can tell you about some groups that meet semi-regularly.

Finally, I HIGHLY recommend that you watch a Video on YouTube by a gentleman named John Dehlin, called "Why People Leave the LDS Church". It is a great video and can be useful in explaining things to your family.

The entire side of my dad's family is mormon actually -- me being the one and only person in my father's line to actually not be mormon... I used to go to church when I was younger, but my parents got divorced around when I was 7... I did, however, end up getting baptized and they somehow consistently find me wherever I go inviting me to go back to church and what-not... I guess I may be listed as an inactive member? regardless, I always welcome the missionaries and treat them well, since I hear going on the mission is not the most glorious thing to do... anyhow, I consider myself the black sheep of my dad's side of the family, as, once again, I am the ONLY one who doesn't follow the religion... I wish you the best of luck, and I hope you don't lose touch with your family... it's hard, but I grew up with this whole awkward family situation since I was 7, so I guess I'm more a bit accustomed to the whole thing....

Well that is good for him and his company but it doesn't develop you as a programmer. Further what they are using now does not imply the same framework in the future. I'm still of the opinion that learning to program and to consider it as a marketable skill one needs to look out for ones self. That means taking focus off of quickly learning to knock out marginal code for him and take your time to develop your knowledge correctly.

Now this is not to imply that .net is a bad platform as it isn't as bad as the older MS frameworks, but it is far from the last word. The problem is how do you know what is good .net code, or how to implement a solution to a problem you are tasked to solve. Building good code actually has little to do with the language, it is more about the apps structure and having an intrinsict understand of the problem domain.

Many teams ask people to rally behind a group they belong in. But we don't want to be "Satanists for Kiva" or "Banjo players for kiva." Who cares about who we are. Our team isn't about who we are, it's about our goal. And our goal is to get a lot of people involved such that we raise a million dollars. If you want your team to be about you, fine, don't join. But if you want it to be about raising a really ambitious amount for a deserving population, then help us out, join, donate, recruit donors, recruit recruiters.

I know this sucks, but this is probably for the best. The truth is the more you talk about it, the worse it gets for you. Even if you win the hearing, that doesn't mean she still won't take it to court. Then, ANYTHING you said could then be used in that criminal trial and easily taken out of context.

Your best and smartest move is to keep all the documentation and then hope she does something on her own to our herself as a liar.

You are the exact case study I use when I speak to college males. You are the horror story. One night stands just aren't worth it. You have to spend enough time with a girl to figure out if she's some crazy bitch with issues.

I've worked in higher education for over a decade, and I've investigated dozens of alleged sexual assaults. Your story is not only not unique, but is almost cliche.

Consider yourself lucky. If you were taken on a criminal path, you'd have spend between 10K-20K to successfully defend yourself.

Make out with a girl, accept a hand job or BJ, but wait another day to have sex. It'll be a better experience all around and you'll avoid a potential nightmare.

grind up the weed until it's very very fine. then microwave some (i used about 1/4 of a stick) butter until it's all melted. once the butter's melted, put your weed into the butter and microwave it for about three minutes. once that's all done put the butter/weed mixture in the freezer and let it solidify.

at this point the rest is up to you. i just spread some of the 'cannabutter' on a croissant and ate it. didn't taste too bad and i got very high from about 0.5g of weed.

i'm not sure how you would go about masking the smell, but it's not really necessary since it doesn't really smell like weed. it smells quite similar to vaporized weed.

"Much of the problem in our nation today is that it's appearing that we've lost our way and forgotten who we are as a people." ~ Mike Huckabee

"Right now, millions of Americans are waking up and realizing that they don't recognize their own country anymore." ~ House Minority Whip Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va.,

What Cantor doesn't recognize is merely a black guy sitting in the President's seat, and Huckabee's talk of "who we are as a people" makes one wonder just which "people" he's talking about.

I'm tellin you what, man I came back in from watching the sun set and playing with my cat(I am a male, no weird pun intended) and had an inbox full of :

    "YOU FAGGOT BRING IT BACK!"

interspersed with messages from reddit friends who were like:

    "Who did you piss off?"

    or:

"Uh oh bonehead, you zoned out and messed up again...you're not gonna hear the end of this for a while".

I do have a few, well, I wouldn't go so far as to call them enemies, since I don't think anyone would escalate a reddit argument to the real world, but I do have some people who don't like me on reddit, but I thought I would be quicker about it than I was.

It wasn't about doctors identifying them. It was to check for legality of immigration status BEFORE signing up for a plan. Its all over the web for you to read about.

Its amusing that Obama says a bunch of shit isn't in his plan, but he isn't the one writing the plan. So when he said that there would be no funds for abortions, and today the Senate rejected an amendment to make sure there were no funds for abortions, do you call that a lie? So when he said there would be no coverage of illegal immigrants and today the Senate destroyed an amendment on checking immigration status of people signing up for insurance, do you call THAT a lie?

What Joe Wilson did was douchey and wrong, but what he said sure seems to be right.

I've seen this many times, and I still just don't get it.

So we have a MovieLister class that takes in a MovieFinder in the constructor, but instead of just passing in a concrete implementation of MovieFinder when the MovieLister is constructed, we build a framework that figures out what what kind of MovieFinder gets passed in based on configuration files.

Aren't we just adding a layer of indirection to the creation of the MovieFinder? How is that useful? It's always seemed like obfuscated code to me.

Save it all for when you need it later in life.

Get a certified deposit for the majority, wherein you tell the bank "Hey hold onto this cash for X years, and in return give me an okay profit (Which should be higher than inflation, ideally)".

You could try investing some of it into stocks as you see fit, the market's pretty low right now and should be going up within the next decade, but that's much more risky.

Put maybe 500 in a checking account incase something on your car breaks or something like that.

Big ol' balls! I'm a bigger fan of him because of this video now than because of his 'die fast' or 'apology' comments. This rocked.

And being able to buy insurance across state lines would likely end up with the most insurance being bought out of the least regulated state. A drop in the bucket... or a drop in a sinking boat, depending on your ideology. (I like anti-capitalist free-market.)

But he seemed to deny that was something the Republicans have put out there... he doesn't seem dishonest... so it seems he either didn't understand the point, or isn't all that up on the other side's side.

Ok, that makes sense now, thanks. Also, I have a problem with his line:

    printf("Also, %p", *pointer);

Once we have corrected his assignment of alright to this:

    char *alright = "gigity";

we'll have a problem, as we are trying to print, as a pointer (%p), what is at the address of alright, due to the assignment (and changing the int to char):

    char *pointer = &alright;

Even though I image that, once again, C will scream at us, it will try to print out the character 'g' as a pointer, converting it to a hex number in the process.

Correct me if i'm wrong please, but it should be:

char *alright = "gigity"; // Added * to make alright a pointer to first char in string

char *pointer = alright; // Changed int to char, removed & as alright is now a pointer

printf("Also, %p", pointer); // Removed * as we want to print the address of pointer, not what is at that add

I only comment in threads when I have something witty to say or something to add to the conversation. Lately reddit has become the same drivel, so it's hard to find something good to comment on. I'm finding that even Digg has better links and the Technology Review articles aren't being upvoted. It's a shame.

On my own rant, part of it has to do with the self posts with sticky comments. These are flooding Reddit with Yahoo Answers-like submissions. I've come to the realization that there should be limits to these sticky comments. For instance, self.reddit should not have any, self.gonewild should be allowed, self.politics should be allowed, but not in self.pics. You see my point. The sticky comments should be optional for the subreddit.

Anyway, I've seen you here and there, but you rarely make a comment that I would like to add to. They are neither insightful nor helpful. Sorry.
